Roberto Martinez has signed Spanish midfielder Xavi Simons on loan from Real Madrid, with the move set to be completed by the end of the month.
Simons, who made his debut in the Premier League last season, will join RB Leipzig on a permanent basis for the rest of the season.
Martinez was delighted with the signing and praised Simons' performance during his time at Real Madrid.
"Xavi is a fantastic player,Bundesliga Tracking" he said. "He is one of the best midfielders in Europe and I am really excited about having him here."
The move comes after Simons had been linked with a move away from Madrid earlier this summer.
"He is a great talent and we have already seen how good he can be," said Martinez. "We are looking forward to seeing what he can bring to RB Leipzig."
Simons will come into the Leipzig side as a replacement for the injured Thomas Vermaelen, while Martinez will also continue to work with the young players.
"We are looking forward to having Simons back in the team," he added. "He brings a lot of experience and ability to our squad."
